So I have loved the spinoff series (Chestnut Springs), but the series that this book takes place in (Gold Rush Ranch) has been a lot more of a miss for me. But alas, I downloaded two of the books in this series on kindle unlimited and decided to try the series out again. My options were: Off to the Races (Billie’s book), or this book- The Front Runner. I know Billie’s comes before this in the timeline but I live by my own rules haha. And this book just seemed like it would suit my tastes more.

First of all this is a “he falls first” scenario. It’s dual POV so you get to experience Stephan’s utter gone-ness for Mira. I love an interracial romance! There was quick banter between the two, which I loved! So much flirting.

Did I mention I was glad I made this reading decision? Because one of the only things keeping this one from being five stars, was Billie. Holy Moly. That woman is so annoying!!! She needed to have a HUGE moment where she apologized to Stefan (hated saying his name in my head. I said it differently constantly… Steph-on, Steph-an, Steph-in). Wow, I cannot imagine sitting through a whole book with her.

Also, Mira says that Violet and Billie are her besties but Violet is certainly the only one I could stand. And overall we didn’t have enough scenes with the three of them together, for me to feel the  “found family/BFF” vibes there.

Ok that’s it for the negative. Other than those few things, I loved this book! Was there a secret being kept? Yes. Luckily that didn’t drag out forever so that was okay for me.

Mira and Stephan were cute together and I loved how many scenes they had together throughout the book- it really kept it moving. overall, being a romance, this book delivered a couple and I could root for.
