It's great to be back in Friendship, RI. Well kind of, because really this heroine lives in Boston with Jamie (my least favorite character from In A Jam who actually became more likable to me in this book).
This book setup potential for a future book to be about Jamie or to be about Ruth (the sister of the MMC in the book In A Rush), so it was fun to get more details about those two characters.
Ok let's talk Audrey and Jude. They have a second chance romance that was both enjoyable and incredibly frustrating. I highlighted parts when I was reading that I struggled with because the characters just decide to "not talk about it" when they have plenty of opportunities to figure out the miscommunication of their pasts. This book was heavy, some emotional abuse and miscarriage and cancer plot lines. Overall I found that this one was too long, and there were some dramatic elements that felt like they kept dragging. I felt like she was anti marriage because of trauma that she needed to go to therapy for. I wanted more with her resolution with her family. And I wanted more from his continual mistakes in communication.
Having said that, I did root for Audrey and Jude. I did read the book quickly and it was filled with the fun banter that I've come to love with Kate Canterbary's books. I could see why the MCs broke up in their teens and I didn't begrudge either character when it came time for them to be together.
Overall this wasn't my favorite of the series but it was enjoyable and I particularly liked seeing a lot of the characters from previous books. While this can be read as a stand alone, it is read best in order with the other books in the series.
